National Park Pass Programs
nps.gov/planyourvisit is full of information about free and discount National Park passes. Unfortunately the website was down for maintenance when we were actually recording the podcast.
National Parks and Historical Narratives
If you’re taking your kids along so they can learn a history lesson, make sure you’ve talked about it before you arrive at national historical sites. The lessons taught within the written history boards you follow along the way may or may not give the points you would like to make.
We’ve all chose to remain silent about the correct or incorrect lessons taught, but most historical markers give a different view on American history than they did 20 years ago. It’s not a matter of one is right and the other wrong. It’s more like both narratives are somewhat one-sided.
The 10 Deadliest National Parks
Countryliving.com brings us the 10 deadliest national parks. The top causes of death are drowning and falling from high places. We have a hunch that selfies could have something to do with that second one.
The light at the end of the tunnel here is that nearly all of these were preventable. Responsible drinking, common sense, and safety equipment for the activity you’re involved in would prevent nearly all of these.
Make Your RV Pay For Itself. Rent It Out
Everyone’s knee jerk reaction on this one is “great idea, but I’m not renting out my RV.” But think about it. What if you can get 340 bucks a weekend for your $17,000 travel trailer? That should cover your payment, insurance and then some. And you still have 3 weekends to use it yourself.
Here’s a story to help you get your head around this concept. In fact, these folks went out and bought 2 more travel trailers to rent out. Tennessean.com has the details.
No show is complete without a few really bad ads, so we have a few of those too.
