Kris Ballard, Co-Host
After more than 3 decades of being married to yours truly, there’s no doubt Kris has a sense of humor. Kris always managed to keep the family activities the center of her attention. Everything from our twin daughters’ ballet lessons to Don’s basketball games and track meets were family activities.
Kris also knew how to pack the car, truck or van with little notice for a trip to the mountains or the beach. It could’ve been a day trip with a picnic basket, or a weekend in a camp ground. When the free time came around, we went. Kris also has an amazing talent for pulling this off on a budget.
Kris has always worked outside the home, and it seems we’ve spent most of our married life with opposite working hours. This made our family excursions even more special. Even now, our work schedule gives us one full day off together every 2 weeks.
Don Ballard, Co-Host
Don is our oldest child. His family of 3 enjoys camping, fishing and attending attending a few of Wisconsin’s music festivals with their popup trailer. Like many of you, they balance this passion around life’s other requirements. Jobs, budgets, kid schedules and family obligations tend to take up a lot of free time.
Don has been a committed and inspirational podcast partner for 3 years before jumping head first into Tom and Kris Camping. He’s a major part of the reason the show returned after 20 episodes.
Being the oldest, Don has the most memories of our early camping days in the Viking Little Gasser popup trailer, our first RV.
Tom Ballard, Co-Host and Producer
That would be me, Tom Ballard. Kris and I purchased that first popup camper in February, 1985, just a few months after we were married. Through the years we’ve owned 2 popup camp trailers, a 24 foot travel trailer, 2 VW Westfalia vans, a slide-in pickup camper and more that our share of tents. We’ve also rented a few motorhomes, beach houses and camping cabins along the way.
We are also lovers of family road trips. With kids in tow, we’ve taken several cross country trips. Falling in love with one of these destinations in 1997, we relocated our family from Portland, Oregon to a small lake town in northern Wisconsin.
Kris and I now live in Green Bay, Wisconsin. We’re both still working, enjoying our 7 grandchildren and planning our next adventure. New to this side of the state, we have a lot to explore.
We look forward to sharing our experiences, past and future with all of you.
